By working through the programme, your staff will be able to prove the skills they already possess and advance new skills against a recognised qualification standard.

  • Course Description

    The programme develops a good awareness of Amenity Horticulture practices within a supervisory role and enables and your employees to work more efficiently and effectively. This qualification will form part of the Advanced Apprenticeship framework for Horticulture. It is a work-related, competence-based qualification. It reflects the skills and knowledge needed to do a job effectively, and shows that a learner is competent in the area of work the qualification represents. The different routes available within this qualification include:

    • Production Horticulture
    • Landscaping
    • Sports Turf - Greenkeeper
    • Sports Turf Groundsman
    • Parks, Gardens and Green Space
  • Entry Requirements

    This course will be appropriate for a wide range of staff with a significant level of autonomy (for instance in a supervisory capacity) working within the horticultural industry. It is relevant to a variety of roles such as landscaping, maintenance, greenkeeping and nursery production. There will be an initial meeting to discuss suitability of the qualification prior to enrolment. Although there are no formal entry requirements to the programme, the candidate should be literate and numerate and in a position to reflect on their practice and gather work-based evidence in a suitable job role.

    City & Guilds Diploma in Work Based Horticulture Level 3

    How is my course assessed?

    In most cases staff can gain enough experience in the workplace to cover all elements of the course. A qualified assessor will visit staff regularly at their place of work to offer direction and support and sign off activity when the standard has been achieved. The staff member will prove they have achieved the standard by gathering evidence of their work through guidance from the assessor. In some cases more help may be required in the form of further training and this can be supplied as and when necessary.
