Stockperson (beef, pigs, sheep, dairy) Apprenticeship Standard Level 2

Stockpersons are responsible for optimising livestock production through health, nutrition and reproduction while maintaining and improving welfare.

  • Course Description

    Being a Stockperson requires self-motivation and the ability to work both independently and as a team player to complete tasks safely and efficiently. This standard provides the opportunity for individuals to acquire the knowledge, skills and behaviours required and follows a core and options approach. The core covers the generic requirements for looking after animals competently and the sector options provide more specific needs for different livestock (beef, sheep, pigs or dairy). The apprenticeship also includes additional qualifications for First Aid and Pesticide Applications.

  • Entry Requirements

    You will be interviewed and assessed to identify your potential, commitment and motivation to achieve the apprenticeship, based upon the range and level of activities you will be undertaking in the workplace.

    Candidates need GCSE grade 2/E Maths & English.

    You may be required to complete an initial assessment for Maths and English to show ability to undertake study towards Level 2 Maths and English.

    What qualification will I achieve?

    Stockperson Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard

    Sector pathway; beef, sheep, dairy or pigs

    PA1 Safe Use of Pesticides

    PA2, PA4 or PA6 Safe Application of Pesticides (Tractor Mounted, Granular Applications or Handheld Applicators)

    Emergency First Aid at Work Level 3

    Maths and English Level 1 or Level 2 (if not already attained)

    Prior to End Point Assessment, apprentices will complete a portfolio demonstrating their skills, knowledge and behaviours.

    How is my course assessed?

    On successful completion of portfolio and learning the candidate will complete and End Point Assessment consisting of an Online Multiple Choice test, Practical Assessment and Professional discussion with an external organisation. A grading of Pass, Merit or Distinction is achievable.

This course can be started at any point throughout the year, as agreed with your employer.
