Our employer supporters will work closely with us to provide this unique and innovative model, which is designed to create secure career paths for young people in the RAF, aerospace and catering industries.

  • Course Description

    Our carefully designed study programmes, which have been shaped by our industry partners, offer a unique blend of academic education and technical training, infused with an additional focus on leadership, communication and team building.

    Our students will get involved with industry-set projects, co-designed by employers - equipping them to enter their career of choice, ahead of the game and ready to progress.

    Air Defence College students will spend a significant proportion of time experiencing industry environments first-hand through an extensive programme of work experience. And industry experts will join the tutors at college to pass on their knowledge and experience.

    Core academic study areas like maths, English and science will be contextualised to the specialism of the Career College; digital skills development will be a major priority.

  • Entry Requirements

    Level 1

    You will need:

    • GCSE Grade 4 (C) in either English or Maths

    Level 2

    You will need:

    • GCSE Grade 4 (C) in either English or Maths

    • 4 or more GCSEs at Grade 3 (D) or higher

    A relevant level 1 qualification may be considered in place of one GCSE.

    Level 3

    You will need:

    • 5 or more GCSEs at Grade 4 (C) or higher, including English and Maths

    • A relevant Level 2 qualification may also be considered.

    You will be invited for interview to ensure you are on the correct course. Exceptional entry may be considered in certain circumstances.

    * Certain courses may have additional costs to cover trips or DBS checks, and for some courses you will be expected to purchase additional items such as uniform or equipment.

    What qualification will I achieve?

    In addition to the uniform services element students will also follow one of the vocational options below:


    • Diploma in Engineering Technologies (Level 2)
    • Extended Diploma in Engineering (Level 3)


    • Extended Certificate in Computing (Level 2)
    • Extended Diploma in Computing (Level 3)

    Professional Cookery

    • Introduction to Professional Cookery (Level 1)
    • Professional Cookery (Level 2)

    Uniformed and Emergency Services

    • Extended Diploma in Public Services (Level 3)


    • Business Level 2 - Extended Certificate
    • Business Level 3 - Extended Diploma)

    Your chosen option will be identified and discussed with you at your initial interview. You will also have to have a separate interview with your chosen course area.

    Students aged 16 to 18 who do not already have GCSE qualifications in maths and/or English at grades 4 (C) - 9 (A*) will take qualifications in English and/or maths as part of their vocational study programme - this is a government requirement.

    How is my course assessed?

    There will be a range of assessment methods which will include both written and practical activities.
