20% of-the-job requirements.

Off-the-job training is defined as learning which is undertaken outside of the normal day-to-day working environment, forms part of their working week and leads towards the achievement of an apprenticeship. This can include training that is delivered at the apprentices normal place of work but must not be delivered as part of their normal working duties. Examples of off-the-job training could include the following:

The teaching of theory (college attendance)

Practical training (including college attendance)

Learning support and time spent writing assessments/assignments.

Off-the-job training does not include:

English and Maths

Progress reviews or on-programme assessment required for an apprenticeship standard

Training which takes place outside the apprentices paid working hours. If training must take place, by exception, outside of these hours, it is expected that this is recognised (for example through time off in lieu).

Charley Davies

Hairdressing - Level 3

“I absolutely loved college and have amazing memories. I made lots of new friends and although we worked hard, we also laughed a lot. All courses that I studied had a lot of practical as well as theory work, which made a big difference in keeping me focused.”
