Essential Digital Skills for Work - Entry Level and Level 1 - Part-Time

We offer two levels on this course:

Entry level

This qualification is designed for adults with no or little prior experience of using digital devices or internet.

Level 1

This qualification is designed for adults with some experience of using digital devices and the internet but lacking general skills.

What will the course include?

The BCS qualifications cover all five skills areas set out in the national standards. These are:

• Using devices and handling information
• Creating and editing
• Communicating
• Transactions
• Being safe and responsible online

There are no formal entry requirements for learners undertaking this qualification. However, as a prerequisite, learners should be able to:

• turn on a device
• use the available controls on a device (such as a mouse and keyboard for a computer, or touchscreen on a smartphone or tablet)
• interact with the home screen on a device
• open and access an application on a device

An assessment will take place in the first session to confirm what course is most suitable.

Adult (19+) learners

Depending on your age, course, educational history and personal circumstances, there may be options available for you to receive a course fully-funded by the government. Our fee calculator will help give you an idea on whether you'll be able to have your course fee waived or covered by an Advanced Learner Loan.

Learners with an active Education, Health & Care Plan

If you are aged 19 - 24 at the start of your course and have an active Education, Health & Care Plan (EHCP), any course up to and including level 3 will be fully-funded by the government. This means you will not have a course fee to pay and any equipment considered essential to complete your course will be provided by the college.

BCS Entry Level / Level 1 in Essential Digital Skills for Work

How is my course assessed?

Both qualifications are assessed through two online, on-screen invigilated tests.

One test will focus on knowledge (with a range of question types including multiple choice, hotspot, drag and drop, ordering and matching). The second test will focus on skills (with question types including hotspots, advanced hotspots and the BCS in-application assessment engine).
