Routes to Learning - Humanities and Social Sciences
This is a FREE 10 week return-to-study course aimed at people aged 19 or over. The programme is designed to improve your confidence as well as your study skills, whilst helping to prepare you for those first steps towards further or higher education.
This course involves 6-7 hours a week working towards your chosen subject area (including a project session), 2 hours in Maths and 2 hours in English. The remaining hours will revolve around study skills and tutorial sessions to help support your return to education and progression.
Please note that, depending on the number of applications, some specialist subjects may be merged. This will not affect your opportunity to progress onto your next course.
All students will gain an English and maths qualification at level 1 or 2 and will likely have the opportunity to progress to a Pre-Access, Access or full-time programme.
Returning to Learning Events
We know how difficult it can be to even consider getting back into education after a long time away. Maybe you're worried that you don't have the time, can't afford it or that childcare may be a barrier.
If you can identify with any of the above, come along to our informal 'Return to Learning' event and meet some of our students who returned to learning and find how it's working for them. You'll also have the opportunity to speak to our teaching and student services staff about how our courses can fit around your commitments and lifestyle, and get more information about financial and childcare support.
If you're interested in coming along, click here to go to our event page and find 'Return to Learning'.
Depending on your age, course, educational history and personal circumstances, there may be options available for you to receive a course fully-funded by the government. Our fee calculator will help give you an idea on whether you'll be able to have your course fee waived or covered by an Advanced Learner Loan.
Learners with an active Education, Health & Care Plan
If you are aged 19 - 24 at the start of your course and have an active Education, Health & Care Plan (EHCP), any course up to and including level 3 will be fully-funded by the government. This means you will not have a course fee to pay and any equipment considered essential to complete your course will be provided by the college.
