Understanding Nutrition and Health - Part-Time

This evening course aims to provide you with a range of knowledge in areas such as health eating, nutritional needs, weight management, eating disorders and food safety in the home environment. Whether you are interested in your own health, brushing up on your knowledge of nutrition for work or have a desire to provide advice to others, this course is for you.

  • Course Description

    During the course, you will:

    • Increase understanding of the principles of healthy eating and the role of food in maintaining health
    • Increase confidence in planning and achieving a healthy diet
    • Provide an understanding of how an individuals dietary requirements change throughout their life
    • Provide an understanding of food labelling and the ability to use information from food labels provide information on eating disorders
    • Increase understanding of the role of a healthy diet for weight management
    • Increase understanding of the principles of food safety in a home environment.

    Mandatory units include:

    • Explore principles of healthy eating
    • Consider nutritional needs of a variety of individuals
    • Use food and nutrition information to plan a healthy diet
    • The principles of weight management
    • Understanding eating disorders
    • Principles of food safety for the home environment

    You will need:

    • Two GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above

    This course starts on Tuesday 29th September.

    This course will run from 18:00-21:00 on Tuesday.

    Fee information

    There are no fee waivers or reductions available for this course. The full cost of the course is payable on application.

    Learners with an active Education, Health & Care Plan

    If you are aged 19 - 24 at the start of your course and have an active Education, Health & Care Plan (EHCP), any course up to and including level 3 will be fully-funded by the government. This means you will not have a course fee to pay and any equipment considered essential to complete your course will be provided by the college.

    What qualification will I achieve?

    You will achieve:

    • NCFE Cache Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Nutrition and Health

    How is my course assessed?

    You will submit a portfolio for each of the above units to demonstrate your understanding of the topic. This will include case studies, written reports and group discussions
