Apprentices will learn about how the health and safety requirements within the sector; the engineering principles involved in processing polymers; how materials behave whilst being processed; the quality and management systems used; and how to use communication and people skills effectively in their working environment.

The Level 3 Science Manufacturing Technician Apprenticeship Standard consists of four main elements:

Level 3 Diploma in Polymer Processing

Vocational Skills Development

IOSH Working Safely

English & maths Level 2

The Diploma in Polymer Processing has several pathways to choose from, making it applicable to a range of processing environments:

A - Polymer Extrusion

B - Polymer Injection Moulding

C - Polymer Preform Blow Moulding

D - Polymer Parison Blow Moulding

E - Polymer Processing of Thermoplastics

F - Polymer Thermoforming

We utilise the equipment and materials within the apprentices place of work so that the programme is specific to their manufacturing environment and products. Regular update meetings will take place to ensure that the content continues to be in line with business needs.

Lexy Marchant

Science (Forensic) - Level 3

Lexy chose to study at CWA for its great facilities and its relaxed and friendly atmosphere. She is currently studying Biomedical Science at university.

"Going to CWA opened the door to university for me. I worked really hard to achieve what I wanted and if it wasn’t for my amazing tutors, I wouldn’t be at uni today, doing the subject I love. I learnt a lot more about microbiology than a lot of people at 6th form and then when I got to uni, I realised I knew a lot more than most undergraduates.

Lexy added, "CWA has helped me realise my potential. It made me reach for goals higher than I ever thought I was capable of. It solidified my love for science, something that I will always have with me and this has opened many doors and given me a breadth of skills I can use in any setting."
