Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (QCF) - Level 2

Mandatory units include:

• Child and young person development
• Communication and professional relationships
• Supporting positive behaviour in children and young people
• Supporting learning activities.

Optional units will be chosen to match the individuals job role. In addition they will acquire the skills and confidence to work more effectively and efficiently in your setting.

In line with the QCF philosophy, the programme is accessible to all of those who work in the role as a Teaching Assistant within a school setting. They must be working with year 1 and above pupils. There will be an initial meeting to discuss suitability of the qualification prior to enrolment. Although there are no formal entry requirements to the programme, the candidate should be literate and numerate and in a position to reflect on their practice and gather work-based evidence within paid or voluntary employment.

How is my course assessed?

In most cases staff can gain enough experience in the setting to cover all elements of the course. A qualified assessor will visit staff regularly at the setting to offer direction and support and sign off standards when met.
