Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (QCF) - Level 3

Mandatory units include:

• Communication and professional relationships
• Understanding how to safeguard the well being of young people
• Supporting learning activities
• Developing professional relationships with children and young people.

Optional units will be chosen to match the individuals job role. In addition they will acquire the skills and confidence to work more effectively and efficiently in your setting.

In line with the QCF philosophy, the programme is accessible to all of those who work in the role as a Teaching Assistant with extra responsibilities within a school setting. They must be working with year 1 and above pupils.

There will be an initial meeting to discuss suitability of the qualification prior to enrolment. Although there are no formal entry requirements to the programme, the candidate should be literate and numerate, have at least 2 years work experience and be in a position to reflect on their practice and gather work-based evidence within paid employment.

How is my course assessed?

In most cases staff can gain enough experience in the setting to cover all elements of the course. A qualified assessor will visit staff regularly at the setting to offer direction and support and sign off standards when met.
