The College of West Anglia welcomed some of the UK’s most promising welding talent to its Wisbech campus recently as it hosted a regional WorldSkills UK WeldSkills Qualifier.
Part of the nationally recognised WorldSkills UK competition programme, the qualifier challenged learners to complete a series of advanced practical welding tasks designed to test technical knowledge, precision, quality and performance under pressure. The competition reflects real-world industry standards and provides participants with the opportunity to demonstrate the skills required by employers across the engineering and manufacturing sectors.
The event formed part of the wider WorldSkills UK competition cycle, which sees thousands of learners and apprentices from colleges, training providers and employers across the country compete for places at the national finals. Competitions are designed by industry experts and help participants develop the technical, professional and employability skills needed for successful careers.
Throughout the day, competitors completed a range of challenging welding exercises while being assessed by experienced industry professionals against rigorous judging criteria.
Hosting the qualifier provided an opportunity for the College to showcase its specialist engineering and welding facilities while supporting the development of future industry talent.
