Three Construction Skills students from the College of West Anglia’s Wisbech campus are preparing to put their creativity and entrepreneurial skills to the test after being accepted into the prestigious Peter Jones Foundation Tycoon competition.

Finn Mcauley, Marc Watson and Erikas Rimkus have launched their business idea under the name The Fabulous Baker’s Trio in honour of their Course Director; Jamie Baker.

The students hope to design, build and sell sustainable hedgehog houses made from recycled materials including old pallets and discarded plastic bottles. The environmentally conscious project has also been designed to support local wildlife and raise awareness for the local charity; Ryston Rachel’s Hedgehog Hotel.

The Peter Jones Foundation Tycoon competition challenges young people across the UK to develop and run a real business enterprise from scratch, helping students gain valuable experience in entrepreneurship, teamwork, budgeting and marketing.

The group’s inspiration for the project first came through their WorldSkills 2026 entry briefing, where they hope to compete as; The Fabulous Baker’s Trio As part of the challenge, students were tasked with developing a recycling-based product concept and creating a mood board to showcase their ideas.

Jamie Baker, Construction Skills Lecturer at the College of West Anglia, said, ”As their course tutor, I am incredibly proud of Finn, Erikas and Marc for the enthusiasm and commitment they have shown throughout this project. They have embraced the opportunity not only to develop their practical skills and enterprise knowledge, but also to support such worthwhile causes through their hard work. It has been fantastic to see the progress and maturity they have shown over the past year, and dedication to both the WorldSkills competition and to raising money for Ryson Rachel’s Hedgehog Hotel by competing in the Peter Jones Foundation Tycoon competition.”

Gemma Doughty, Learner Experience and Enrichment Coordinator at the College of West Anglia said, ”Seeing the enthusiasm Finn, Marc and Erikas have brought to this project has been fantastic. They've really embraced the opportunity to turn an idea into something meaningful, while also thinking about sustainability and supporting the local wildlife. It's also been brilliant to watch how well they work together as a team, encouraging each other and combining their different skills throughout the project.”
