Father & Daughter Expand ‘Gray’ Matter
A father and daughter from Downham Market are both studying together towards a degree at the College of West Anglia. Justin and Lucie Gray have just begun a 3 year Degree in Psychosocial Studies at CWA’s King’s Lynn Campus.
Justin suffered back injury a year ago preventing him from continuing his job as warehouse operative and was looking for a new challenge, saying “I couldn’t do a physical job anymore, so I wanted to gain a qualification that would challenge my mind”. After talking to a careers advisor, Justin decided to follow his interest in psychology and last year completed the Access to Higher Education course at the college.
His daughter Lucie, completed her A-Levels this year at Downham Market Academy and had originally planned on attending University in Cambridge. Lucie changed her plans after considering the financial implications of attending a University away from home and associated accommodation costs. It was then that Justin and Lucie decided to start the course at the College of West Anglia, completing a degree validated by Anglia Ruskin University.
Justin said “It’s so handy to be able to study degree on your doorstep”.
Both Justin and Lucie agreed that studying together at college and living together, worked really well, being able to support each other with assignments and revision.
Justin and Lucie, who happen to be both the oldest and the youngest students within their class, have already discussed starting a family business after completing course.
Course Director, Janet Jones said “Justin and Lucie obviously have a great father/daughter relationship, which brings real inspirational to others in the group”.
