College of West Anglia (CWA) hosted a careers fair at its Wisbech campus, bringing together students, employers, and training providers in the college’s new Green Skills Academy.
The event gave learners the opportunity to explore career pathways, apprenticeships and progression routes across a wide range of industries, while speaking directly with employers and sector professionals.
The careers fair took place in the recently completed Green Skills Academy, a purpose-built modern facility at the Wisbech campus designed to support skills development, employer engagement, and sustainable growth. The building was delivered through joint funding from Anglian Water and Partners, Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority, and the College of West Anglia.
Employers attending the event pulled from a wide range of industries, giving learners the chance to engage with organisations representing multiple sectors from across Fenland. Employers in attendance included: Anglian Water, Anglia Ruskin, Ivy Reign Salon, Curls Devotion, Cats Protection, Claret, Kier Limited, Fenland Baby Bank, RSPCA East Winch and RAF.
Mayor of Wisbech, Councillor Janet Tanfield commented on the event saying “Thank you for inviting us to the careers fair! We all had an amazing time. I even got to hold on an African snail! Everyone was so positive and enthusiastic at the event and all the students we spoke to really enjoyed the experience!”
Career Coordinator, Lesley Anderson said, “Our second Careers Fair was a huge success, with fantastic engagement from both employers and students. It was especially valuable to have such an open and constructive discussion with employers about the common employability skills gaps faced by young people leaving further education, and how we can work together to address them. It was really encouraging to see our students confidently engaging with employers and taking proactive steps towards their future careers.”
Amber Heighton, Work placement and Careers Co-Ordinator, added “We are absolutely thrilled to be hosting our second all campus careers event at the Wisbech campus. We have many new and returning employees attending from various industries. This will give all our students a valuable opportunity to meet local employers and gain insight into their industries and job roles. Some students may even gain work experience or job opportunities as a result from this event. We are also excited to be able to showcase our new Green Skills Academy as the facility for holding the event.”
