The event was planned and delivered by second-year Level 3 students Lily Ash, Lily Walker, Thalia Smith, Laura Turner, Mia Painter, Katie Shaw, Annabelle Firks and Shauna Button as part of their studies into the UK conferences and events industry.
Staff and members of the public attended the quiz held at the College’s Novus Restaurant, which included a raffle, prizes and amenu featuring dishes such as beef tikka curry and fish and chips.
The event also featured cancer research-themed face painting by Jema Bywater, Course Director for Level 2 Hair and Media Make-up, while students wore pink tutus to help bring colour and energy to the fundraiser.
As part of the project, learners were able to put their event planning skills into practice, from organising activities and prizes to promoting the event and supporting guests on the night.
Nicola Leadley, Course Director for Level 3 Travel and Tourism at the College of West Anglia, said, “I am incredibly proud of our students for the hard work, enthusiasm and professionalism they showed in organising this event. Planning and running a live quiz gave them valuable experience of the conferences and events industry, from promotion and logistics to customer service and teamwork. To see the event sell out and raise £523 for Cancer Research UK is a fantastic achievement, and they should be very proud of what they have accomplished.”
The event gave students valuable hands-on experience of planning and running a live event, while also raising money for an important cause.
