Open Farm Sunday - 8th June 2014
Open Farm Sunday at the Cambridge campus of the College of West Anglia on Sunday 8th June promises to be the biggest and best yet. The campus, on Landbeach Road, Milton, will be open from 10am to 3pm and both parking and admission is completely free.
Visitors, young and old alike, will be spoilt for choice with all the things to see and do at the campus and the adjoining farm.
Head of Faculty Alison Barber said: “The event is just going from strength to strength.”
There will be numerous animals and creatures to see, large and small, demonstrations, competitions and opportunities to have a go at some of the events.
Making the big time this year will be the first appearances of three newly-acquired llamas, adding to the attraction of the alpacas down on the farm, many different animals, pedigree pig display ring and pig obstacle course.
The equine area has plenty of things to see and do.
There will be demonstrations in the Equine Therapy Centre; biomechanics demonstration; vaulting (gymnastics on horseback) demonstration; show jumping in the outdoor school; having a go at grooming; painted horses; interactive quiz; having a go on dressage/racing simulator; guess the weight of the pony; number of pony nuts in a jar and a drawing competition.
The smaller animals section has much to interest visitors and many creepy crawlies too.
People can see rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, mice, chinchillas, degus, hamsters, birds, ferrets, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, snakes, lizards, millipedes, cockroaches, frogs, tarantulas and beetles.
Over the road from the main campus is Woodside Farm with numerous animals and livestock and other attractions too.
There is meet the animals – sheep, lambs, calves, cattle, pigs, chickens, llamas, alpacas; children’s craft and activities; machinery demonstrations and obstacle courses; competitions and quizzes, for example how much does the pig weigh, name the llamas, a general farm quiz etc; animal feeding; tractor and trailer rides.
