Being a mature student, I wasn’t aware that I could do an Apprenticeship. As I had family to provide for, I needed a full-time job to support them. Studying an apprenticeship allowed me to have an income and learn new skills.
My job typically involves me operating and maintaining a wide variety of digital printing machines, diagnosing faults and carrying out repairs. The apprenticeship had many routes that I could choose to go down, but my employer and myself jointly chose the course that was appropriate for me.
I attend the college once a week and enjoy learning new information and skills. I am then able to apply these skills at my workplace. The best thing about completing an apprenticeship is the sense of achievement and gaining a wider knowledge of the subject, benefiting both myself and my employer.
After completing my apprenticeship, I am looking into several courses and would like to continue learning, hoping to complete a Higher National Certificate (HNC).
