Jack was awarded Apprenticeships winner at the CWA Student of the Year Awards ceremony 2018.

Jack works for the family business Goodrum Joinery in Wimbotsham, he started his level 2 apprenticeship in Site Carpentry in 2014. When he completed this, he progressed to level 3.

During this time Jack has consistently achieved high standards with his practical and theory apprenticeship work in class. He has also represented the college in a range of competitions, including the Norfolk and Waveney Carter Cup where he achieved gold.

Jack also took part in the regional heats of Skillbuild and won the gold medal for senior site carpentry. As one of the highest scorers in the country, Jack was invited to compete at the UK finals of the world skills competition.

Jack attended World Skills UK at the NEC in Birmingham where he achieved a Highly Commended award.  This has led to Jack being nominated for Team UK World Skills in Kazan 2019. Jack is the first apprentice from the college to be nominated for this stage of World Skills, which is an amazing achievement. We wish Jack every success in the competition and for his future.

Jack said: “At college, I have learnt so many other skills that haven’t just revolved around carpentry. I have learnt how to be more adaptable to overcome many difficult challenges I have faced. Since then I have grown in confidence and gone from strength to strength within the workplace.”
