My future aspirations were to develop a career within womenswear design and to achieve a better understanding of the industry and design prior to attending university.

I chose to study fashion for several reasons; having aspired to work in fashion since I was young, I felt confident this was the industry that I wanted to work in and therefore the option of studying A-level wasn’t the best option for me, personally. The course had been recommended to me by someone, after attending the open day I had no doubt that this was the course I wanted to study.

The course stood out to me as unique and the only one in the surrounding areas which had a great reputation and covered many topics, helping build a strong foundation of knowledge, prior to university and working within the fashion industry. Having the prospect of learning how to sew and pattern cut, experiment with illustration and textiles and having the opportunity to start to develop design skills, only to name a few topics covered, I felt this course offered more experience and a better foundation in comparison to other courses in Cambridgeshire.

The course covers many topics and teaches you the entire process of researching, designing and then through to creating the product. I enjoyed having the opportunity to see my ideas come to life and to start to experiment with textiles, fabrics and the design and development of different garments, which all contributes towards starting to build a unique design identity. I then went into Higher Education to study BA (Hons) Fashion Design at Bath Spa University. Studying at CWA benefitted me going to university as I already had the foundation of knowledge and skills and saw the benefits of having previously studied a fashion course.

I am currently working at a luxury high street womenswear brand as ‘Design Co-ordinator’. My role involves designing, developing prints and working with the CEO and all teams to produce and present collection range plans ensuring colour, fabric and design are all developed to their best potential as a collection before signing off.

For anyone wanting to develop a career in fashion design, I couldn’t recommend a better starting point
