The college is offering students the opportunity to have up to three hours per week of additional GCSE Maths, English or A-Level subject tuition free of charge through a third-party service called MyTutor. This page includes further details on how to access your extra tuition, what you’ll need and much more.
What is MyTutor?
The college is working with MyTutor to deliver up to three hours per week of additional tuition free of charge. All additional tuition is completed online through MyTutor, which matches students with tutors who are studying at top universities somewhere in the UK.
The additional tuition will take place in MyTutor’s interactive online lesson space. You’ll be able to see and hear your tutor and you’ll be able to use the space to draw and type over materials. You can see a preview of the lesson space looks like here.
Extra tuition with MyTutor will start for students who have already disclosed their interest from Monday 7th March. If you haven’t been able to register your interest and would like to get started, please don’t worry; there will be further opportunities for you to sign up shortly.

How do I access my lesson?
All additional tuition will take place in MyTutor’s interactive online lesson space during the hours you told us suited you. You will need to log in to MyTutor to access this. As MyTutor is a third-party service, your login details will be different to your college username and password. We will contact you by email with your username, password and details of each session ahead of your first lesson.
Logging in to MyTutor and accessing your lesson is really easy:
- Go to mytutor.co.uk/students/login
- Log in using the username and password provided by the college
- Refresh the page 5 minutes before the start of the lesson
- Click ‘Launch’ to enter the lesson space!
If you’ve forgotten your username and password, please contact student services on 01553 815271 ahead of your session.

What devices can I use and what will I need?
You can use a laptop, Chromebook or desktop PC to access MyTutor. Unfortunately, due to the interactive nature of the session, you will not be able to use your phone or tablet.
You’ll also need a headset (or earphones with a microphone) for your sessions.
If you do not have a suitable device or headset, you can contact the team at the learning resource centre to borrow a device and / or headset for your session. Just pop in to the LRC at your campus or email them at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
If you’d rather access your lesson on site, you can book a computer in the LRC through LEARN.

What will happen during my first session?
Your first session is all about saying hello to your tutor and discussing the topics you need a bit more help with. They will already have an idea based on what you told us when you registered your interest. Your tutor will not know your full name and will refer to you by your preferred name.

What if I'm not able to make my session?
Just like with college, it’s really important that you attend each MyTutor session. That said, we know that something might come up and you might need to rearrange to a different time. MyTutor have made it really easy for you to reschedule your session – you just need to log in to MyTutor and send your tutor a message to let them know that you’re not able to make it and suggest an alternative time. You still need to do this even if you’ve logged an absence through the student portal or called the college’s absence line.
Your online tutor is a university student and there may be instances where an emergency comes up. If they ever need to rearrange your lesson, they will contact you through MyTutor.
If you miss more than two lessons in a row without a good reason, you may be withdrawn from the service as your place may be given to another student.
