Access to Higher Education
Our Access courses are suitable for adult learners and are designed for people who would like to study in higher education, but left school without the qualifications needed to progress to university. With part-time and full-time options available, these level 3 courses run for 36 weeks from September to June.

ACCESS TO HIGHER EDUCATION – BIOLOGY AND HEALTH
This evening programme aims to develop the skills and self-confidence in mature learners (19+) necessary to progress to their chosen course in higher education or profession.
ACCESS TO HIGHER EDUCATION – BUSINESS
The College of West Anglia is a longstanding and successful provider of Access courses.This programme aims to develop the skills and self-confidence in learners necessary to progress to their chosen course in higher education or profession.
ACCESS TO HIGHER EDUCATION – COMPUTING
This is course is designed for mature learners who want to study towards a degree in Computer Science. The programme aims to develop the skills and self-confidence in learners necessary to progress to their chosen course in higher education or profession.
ACCESS TO HIGHER EDUCATION – HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES
This programme aims to develop the skills and self-confidence in learners necessary to progress to their chosen course in higher education or profession.
ACCESS TO HIGHER EDUCATION – MEDICINE
This is a Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) recognised qualification that is currently accepted by numerous UK medical schools as an entry qualification to medicine.
ACCESS TO HIGHER EDUCATION – SCIENCE AND NURSING
This programme aims to develop the skills and self-confidence in learners necessary to progress to their chosen course in higher education or profession.
ACCESS TO HIGHER EDUCATION – VETERINARY SCIENCE
Our Access course in Veterinary Science is a stepping stone to progress to higher education in the bio-veterinary field.
PRE-ACCESS TO BUSINESS
Our Pre-Access to Business is designed to provide mature (19+) learners with essential knowledge and skills that will support progression into a full Access to Higher Education course or employment within a range of disciplines related to business management.
PRE-ACCESS TO COMPUTING
Our Pre-Access to Computing designed to provide mature (19+) learners with essential knowledge and skills that will support progression into a full Access to Higher Education course or employment within a range of disciplines related to computing.
PRE-ACCESS TO HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES
Our Pre-Access to Humanities & Social Sciences course is designed to provide mature (19+) learners with the essential knowledge and skillset to support progression onto our Access to Humanities and Social Science programme and then into higher education.
PRE-ACCESS TO SCIENCE AND NURSING
Our Pre-Access to Science & Nursing course is designed to provide mature (19+) learners with essential knowledge and skills that will support their progression directly into employment within the health sciences or onto our Access to Science and Nursing ready to progress into higher education.

Access to HE in Business

What adaptations are currently in place for your course as a result of Covid-19 restrictions / government guidelines?
Teaching is still taking place in face to face sessions with social distancing measures within the classroom and strict cleaning routines. However, learners are able to attend sessions remotely if there are in self-isolation.

What does a typical timetabled day on this course consist of?
The course is timetabled so you are only expected to attend 2 days a week this is an intentional design to help you meet whatever additional commitments you have outside of work. A typical day will start at 8.45 am and end at 4 pm. Most lessons are timetabled in 2-hour slots with an hour for lunch.

How is the course structured in terms of balance of theory / practical etc and what are the expectations in terms of assignments, exams etc?
This is a practical business course where you will study and apply a range of business topics. For each unit will have at least one formal assignment and you will be assessment through either written assignments of up to 3000 words, group presentations and exams.

How are learners supported on the course (e.g. tutorials, 1:1 sessions, extra help etc)?
During this course you will have a weekly tutorial were we you will receive support with your applications to university and employability skills. There is also an academic writing session to help you develop your academic writing skills. There is also a one-hour work shop during which you gain receive additional support with your assignments.

Does the course involve work experience / placement and if so, how does this fit into the course timetable?
No, however, if your wish to organise your own work experience during this course the employability skills covered in tutorial session with help you with this.

What are the progression opportunities/job prospects after this course? What kind of careers do your students go into afterwards?
This course is designed to help learners prepare for university. While some learners progress onto apprenticeships and the securing jobs in business most of our learners go university

There are a range of topics covered including Business, Human Resources, Employment Law, Ethics in Business, Accounts, Marketing, Leadership and Management, IT skills and Higher Education Study Skills
