english and history students conference

To close the academic year, BA History and English staff and students held a humanities conference.

The day-long event saw a variety of speakers visit the University Centre, including actor and artistic director, Andrew Jarvis who discussed the most recent King’s Lynn Shakespeare Festival, as well as keynote speaker Dr Sean Lang, Senior Lecturer in History at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge who discussed “Order, Order! – and Disorder: Is the Parliamentary System in Crisis?”.

Students also delivered presentations on everything from, ‘How to Edit and Publish a Book’ to the Stonewall Riots, while alumnus returned to deliver speeches on a variety of subjects from their current professions to possible career pathways after finishing a degree.

Course Director BA Hons English/History and A-Level English Subject Coordinator, Katrin Wilhelm said:

“Our 3rd Humanities conference brought together students, staff, alumni, outside speakers and members of the public. It was an excellent mix of short academic lectures and illuminating talks from our UCWA alumni about graduate employment in this region.

Our external speakers were inspiring and we had plenty of positive feedback from those who attended.

We’re continuing to strengthen our relationships with Anglia Ruskin, our partner university, and with literature, drama and history societies in West Norfolk and are looking forward to planning more events together.”
