I am currently studying the Access Course into Veterinary Science at College of West Anglia Cambridge Campus.
The access course is perfect foundation to progress onto a degree within the veterinary industry whether it be veterinary medicine that you want to study or veterinary nursing. It is a unique course that is currently only offered at one other place of education within the UK and is the perfect stepping stone for someone who is looking for a career change or returning to education.
The facilities that the college has to offer are amazing and will help with your progression throughout the course. There is an on-site library with gives you access to hundreds of books. There are also computers that are available to book to help aid with your study and they also have a number of animals on site to help with that hands-on experience.
The course is one year and is delivered over two full days and includes topics such as biology, chemistry, veterinary environment and veterinary law. The main bulk of the course is theory based, however there are some elements of the course that are practical based. The course also helps you to prepare for further education by providing you with the support and skills that you will require at degree level.
With the course only being two days, it allows time for other commitments you may have outside of college, for example if you have children or a part time job.
Overall, the college has a really friendly vibe and is a great working environment. The tutors provide you with immense support throughout the course and are on hand to offer advice and guidance with the next stage in your life, whether that may be going into employment or further education.
