General Farm Worker - Apprenticeship - Level 2

General Farm Workers manage the storage of forage and crop, minimising waste and disposing of necessary waste appropriately. Animal welfare and risk awareness and prevention are integral to this occupation.

In this occupation you will be responsible for:

• Assisting with animal and plant health nutrition
• Maintaining health and safety and biosecurity
• Operating farm vehicles
• Optimising the environmental impacts of animal and crop performance

In your daily role you may also interact with:

• Internal farm team, eg reporting to a line manager
• External stakeholders, including vets, farm advisor, contractors and other consultants to the business.

You will need:

• Functional Skills Level 1 in English and maths. If you have an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) or a legacy statement, then the English and maths minimum requirement is Entry Level 3

You will be interviewed and assessed to identify your potential, commitment and motivation to achieve the apprenticeship, based upon the range and level of activities you will be undertaking in the workplace.

You may be required to complete an initial assessment for English and maths to show ability to undertake study towards Level 2 English and maths.

How many hours / days per week is this course?

This is a work-based course, so regular attendance at the college is not required. There will be adhoc sessions to attend, which will be discussed with apprentices and their employer.

What qualification will I achieve?

• General Farm Worker Apprenticeship Standard Level 2
• Pathway option, Livestock Worker or Crop Worker
• Award in Emergency First Aid at Work, Level 3
• City & Guilds, Level 2 Award in the Safe Application of Pesticides Using Pedestrian Handheld Equipment or Lantra Safe use of Pesticides
• Maths and English Level 1 or Level 2 (if not already attained)

How is my course assessed?

On successful completion of a portfolio and learning the candidate will complete an End Point Assessment consisting of:

• Multiple Choice Test
• Practical Assessment with questions
• Professional Discussion (underpinned by a portfolio of evidence)

A grading of Pass, Merit or Distinction is achievable.
