If you are a child in care or a care leaver we want you to enjoy college, feel well supported, achieve in your studies and reach you full potential.

College of West Anglia (CWA) has a statutory and moral duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of all children, young people and vulnerable adults receiving education at the college.

A young carer and young adult carer is someone aged 25 and under who cares for a friend or family member who, due to illness, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction, cannot cope without their support. Older young carers are also known as young adult carers and they may have different support needs to younger carers.

College of West Anglia (CWA) is committed to providing a safe environment where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.  We have a zero-tolerance approach to sexual violence, sexual harassment, bullying, discrimination, hate crimes and other incidents of abuse – it is never acceptable.  We will take action to tackle this whenever it happens. All reports will be taken seriously, we will listen to you and will talk to you about how we can help and support you.

We want all students to feel safe and well supported during their time at UcWA.  Our student welfare team supports students at all campuses with any concerns that maybe worrying or affecting them, including safeguarding concerns, mental health issues and personal problems.  No matter what challenges you’re facing, we’re here to support you.

At the college you are treated as an adult and have the freedom to manage your own learning. We also provide a wide range of support depending on your needs. From personal, to learning support and even help with developing your skills. Take a look below for more information.

Below is a guide to how to access the main college learning systems from home. If you have a question not answered here, access the help area in LEARN or contact the digital team in the LRC by phone (01553 815266) or email (This email address is being protected from spambots. We will release your young person's second 'progress review' of the academic year on the student portal and would love for you to come in to discuss how they're doing.

There may be instances where you require confirmation that you are studying with us at CWA.

We are delighted that your child has chosen to study with us. We will endeavour to ensure that their time is spent well so that they can reach their full potential and their career aspirations.

Our Applicant Experience Days will give you a taste of college life, specifically for the course you’ve applied for. They are also the best possible way for you to understand what your college day will look like. As well as being a student for a day you will also:

  • Meet the other people who have applied for your course
  • Meet your lecturers
  • See the facilities and classrooms
  • Try out the catering available on campus
  • Meet the mentor team
  • Get all your kit information and try it on (where needed).

We will be sending out invitations and booking details soon. Below are the provisional dates by subject and campus, so you can save the date!

There's a few things you'll need to consider between accepting your offer and starting your course. This page has everything you need to know!

If you don't achieve a 4 or above in English and / or Maths, you will continue to study the subjects with us at CWA.

If you haven't lived in the UK for the last three years, you might not be funded to study at CWA.

The college operates a financial support scheme which can help students whose financial circumstances make it difficult for them to meet the costs associated with study.
