For some of our courses, it is necessary to purchase relevant equipment or clothing (e.g. protective clothing), whilst for some others, we offer optional college-branded clothing.
The kit lists below will give you information about what equipment is essential for your course and may also offer optional equipment. The majority of our equipment and uniform can be purchased at our online store, but please check the kit list for your course below first, as some equipment and uniform will only be available from the original supplier.
Equipment and Kit Lists
The following information is for students starting in the 2021 - 2022 academic year (courses starting from September 2021). If your course starts from September 2022, please DO NOT purchase any of the kits on this page. You should use this page to to help get you an idea on what you will need for your course and on the costs. The required kit (and price) are reviewed each year and are subject to change.
Important information for 19+ students
If you are a fully-funded student (i.e. you do not have to pay any fees for your course) or are planning on obtaining an Advanced Learner Loan to cover your course fees then any equipment or uniform which is considered essential to you completing your course will be provided you by the faculty team. If this is the case for you, please do not purchase any ESSENTIAL kit, equipment or uniform prior to your course. You can find more information on adult learning fees here. If you do not meet the above criteria, you may be entitled to financial help to help you with kit, equipment and uniform costs.
Financial Help
The college operates a financial support scheme which can help students whose financial circumstances make it difficult for them to meet the costs associated with study; find out more information here. Once you have purchased your equipment and have been awarded funds from financial support, please provide us with a receipt of your purchase and we will refund you in the first term of the course. If you have already been awarded financial support, we may be able to order it for you (course dependent); your award letter will contain further details. Please note that we are only able to refund or purchase kit, equipment or uniform which is considered essential to you completing your qualification.

All equipment and clothing can be purchased via the online store; please select your campus and chosen course from the options available.
Students are advised not to purchase any equipment for these courses over the summer. Placements start after October half-term and we would suggest waiting a few weeks into the term, to make sure you are certain that you are on the right course. Each course has a different colour kit, and is also named according to the subject area. However, if you think you may be entitled to financial help towards the cost of the kit (and your DBS check, travel costs etc.), then you should apply for that over the summer as funding is allocated on a first come first served basis.
Students on one of T-level courses will have a separate kit with our local supplier, Double G. Further details to come shortly.
Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check
All students on care and early years courses will be required to complete a Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check to enable them to access placement. Your DBS check will be processed by the college, so please do not arrange your own!
It is essential that you pay and prepare for your DBS check before you start your course. The DBS check costs £50 and you'll be able to pay for this on our online store - we'll update this page with further details once it is available. If you are eligible for financial help, we will cover the cost of your DBS check for you - you will not have to pay for it beforehand.
When completing your DBS check, you will be asked to provide original documents to confirm your identity and you need to prepare these in the summer ready for your induction week. These include primary identity documents (e.g. passport), and financial / social history documents and trusted government documents.
