Adults Part-TimeThis course is mapped to the Cyber Security Technician occupational standard and is designed to meet the needs of adult learners (19+) by providing a clear pathway to employment as a Cyber Security Technician.
Studying this course will enable you to develop the ability and confidence to apply knowledge, skills and behaviours when carrying out duties and functions of a cyber security technician, as well as cyber security compliance.
You will also learn how to review their own development needs to keep up to date with emerging cyber-related technologies.
What will I study?
This is a one-year programme, comprising of the following modules / units:
Unit 1: Technologies, Principles and Evolving Threats
Students will:
Learn about Cyber Security threats, including new and evolving threats, vulnerabilities and how to protect systems.
Learn about vulnerabilities in networked systems and techniques used to defend organisations against network attacks.
Unit 2: Policies and Procedures in Cyber Security
Students will learn:
How legislation applies to cyber security issues.
How cyber security policies and standards are used to mitigate cyber security threats.
Unit 3: Cryptography and Incident Management
Students will:
Learn how cryptography protects data and networked systems
Apply cryptographical systems and processes to secure data
Whilst there are no formal entry requirements, it is preferable to have achieved a GCSE grade 4 or above (or Functional Skills Level 2) in Maths and English.
A learner's suitability for the course will be assessed prior to enrolment and will focus on the following requirements:

This course will be delivered over 1 day per week between the hours of 8:45am - 7pm. Day TBC.
Students who achieve the L3 Cyber Security Technician (Diploma) can progress to roles such as cyber security technologist or cyber security engineer. This course will also provide the skills and knowledge necessary to help progression to a higher level qualification.
