Course Description
This course an introduction to teaching or training for those candidates who started working or want to work as teachers/trainers in further education, adult community education or work-based training within public and private community organisations. Additionally, this short course may also be helpful for those who are considering career change.
It has no teaching/training practice requirement. Therefore, it may be undertaken by candidates who are not in a teaching role.
Enrolling on this course will help you gain:
- a fundamental understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a teacher/trainer in relation to legislation, equality, diversity, inclusivity and meeting the needs of learners
- the ability to identify the characteristics of effective assessment and feedback.
- the ability to sequence learning, plan and deliver sessions, using appropriate resources and teaching methods

You will need:

To be aged 19+ at the commencement of this qualification

To undertake an initial assessment of your English to identify any development needs and, where applicable, agree an action plan to address them.
- You will be invited to attend an interview with the Course Director, either face to face or via Microsoft Teams, before being offered a place on the course.
You will need to have access to a PC with internet connection or WIFI device which enables face time/Microsoft Teams calling. You will need the ability to learn independently using asynchronous materials on LEARN platform.

Progression Opportunities
What can I do after this course at CWA?
Following the successful completion of the course; you would be able to progress onto the higher level teaching qualifications e.g. Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training or Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training. However, completion of Level 3 course is not an entry requirement for those programmes.

What qualification will I achieve?
Level 3 Award in Education and Training
How is my course assessed?
A minimum of 12 credits must be achieved across the qualification. There are a combination of both mandatory and optional units. The qualification will be assessed by a combination of written and oral assignments e.g. leaflets, professional discussions, session justifications and lesson plans, observation of simulation of teaching or training (micro-teaching) and reflective accounts. Average time commitment recommended for study is 5-10 hours per week (this includes scheduled lessons).
Interviews for this course week commencing 30th June 2025 and week commencing 25th August 2025.
The course starting September is an in person evening course. There is an online evening version of the course starting in January 2026. There is an in-person intensive daytime version of the course in February 2026 half-term. There is an in-person afternoon version of the course starting March 2026.
The course starts 11th September, with an in person induction 17:30-19:30.
There will 4 in person sessions on Thursday 17:30-19:30.
