Adults Part-TimeIf you're looking to step into a mentoring role, become a more confident manager or lay the groundwork for a future career in counselling, this new part-time course in Mentoring is the perfect starting point.
During this one evening a week course, you'll build the essential skills to support otherslike active listening, giving feedback, and setting goalswhile exploring the responsibilities and impact of an effective mentor. The course is hands-on and supportive; designed to help you grow professionally and make a real difference in peoples lives.
During the award, you'll cover these three mandatory units:
- Role of a mentor: Explore what it means to be a mentor, including the purpose, types, and benefits of mentoring. You'll learn about setting boundaries, managing mentoring relationships, and understanding the importance of support structures and record-keeping.
- Preparing for the role of a mentor: Develop the key skills needed to be an effective mentor, such as communication, active listening, and giving feedback. This unit also covers ethical and legal considerations, risk awareness, and how to reflect on your own development.
- Demonstrating mentoring skills and techniques: Put your skills into practice by planning and delivering a mentoring session. You'll be observed by an assessor and will reflect on the session to create an action plan for your ongoing growth as a mentor.
There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

Depending on your age, course, educational history and personal circumstances, there may be options available for you to receive a course fully-funded by the government. Our fee calculator will help give you an idea on whether you'll be able to have your course fee waived or covered by an Advanced Learner Loan.
If you are aged 19 - 24 at the start of your course and have an active Education, Health & Care Plan (EHCP), any course up to and including level 3 will be fully-funded by the government. This means you will not have a course fee to pay and any equipment considered essential to complete your course will be provided by the college.
NCFE Award in Mentoring - Level 2
This course is assessed through a portfolio of evidence that you build throughout the three units. There are no exams; you'll complete a range of practical and written taskssuch as reflective accounts, observation records, session plans, and feedback logs.
