Adults Employers Higher Education (UcWA)The In-Service Certificate in Education (CertEd) is an award of the University of Huddersfield and is a full professional teaching qualification for teachers who are currently employed in the lifelong sector without a teaching qualification and first/undergraduate degree.
This course contains 90 credits of study at intermediate level (Level 5). This course, alongside our Postgraduate Certificates in Education, are for teachers in a wide range of settings within the lifelong learner sector such as further education, sixth form colleges, adult and community education, work-based learning, post-14 education and offender learning.
The course content, delivered over two years, includes principles in planning and delivering teaching, learning and assessment and a focus on delivery for a subject specialist area. Additionally, the course includes issues of equality, diversity, inclusion and social justice and enables the exploration of policy context and its impact on teaching practice. Other issues which are explored are those related to the use of English, maths and digital technologies in teaching and learning and the nature of professionalism in education.
Course content is delivered through class-based group sessions, lectures, seminars and tutorials delivered at the University Centre West Anglia. In response to Covid 19, to ensure trainees have experience of a virtual teaching and learning environment, some sessions are taught synchronously online.
Professional teaching experience is provided through current employment. The two aspects of theory and practice and how they are entwined are explored through group and tutorial discussion and reflective learning. There is currently a requirement to attend and contribute to, the Specialist Conference at the University on two occasions. Provisional dates are a Saturday in November and one Saturday in April.
