Pre-Access to Humanities & Social Sciences - Part-Time
Our Pre-Access to Humanities & Social Sciences course is designed to provide mature (19+) learners with the essential knowledge and skillset to support progression onto our Access to Humanities and Social Science programme and then into higher education.
This course, which will run one day per week, gives a foundation in both study skills and subject knowledge. Learners are introduced to sociology, which includes looking at sociological ideas and current areas of debate such as crime, deviance and sexuality, and psychology.
Learners will also have the opportunity to enhance their maths and English skills, as well as specific study skills sessions (such as spelling and writing, critical thinking, research skills etc.) to improve proficiency and build confidence to help aid the transition of getting back into education.
Units may include:
Introducing Humanities and The Arts
Returning to Learning Events
We know how difficult it can be to even consider getting back into education after a long time away. Maybe you're worried that you don't have the time, can't afford it or that childcare may be a barrier.
If you can identify with any of the above, come along to our informal 'Return to Learning' event and meet some of our students who returned to learning and find how it's working for them. You'll also have the opportunity to speak to our teaching and student services staff about how our courses can fit around your commitments and lifestyle, and get more information about financial and childcare support.
If you're interested in coming along, click here to go to our event page and find 'Return to Learning'.
The full cost of the course is £725.
You may also be eligible for our unemployment or low wage waivers.
Alternatively, if your household income is less than £25,000 per annum, you may be eligible for our financial support scheme which covers the full cost of Pre-Access courses.
The College of West Anglia offers many opportunities to continue studying from entry level through to degrees at University Centre West Anglia. Some of the courses available for those who have successfully completed this course include:
