Charlie Moore studied Electrical Installation at CWA , he chose the college as it offered the right course and was local to him. Whilst studying Charlie was approached by his tutor to participate in World Skills, Charlie seized the opportunity, which saw him winning the Gold medal in the Electrical installation category at World Skills 2024, effectively making him the best trainee electrician in the country!
When competing Charlie had to face a series of challenges over a 3 day period. They consisted of tasks such as completing a ring final circuit, EV charger circuit, dol control circuit and a lighting circuit. Charlie said “The main content of my course was installation of multiple electrical circuits as well as testing and inspecting and fault finding, so great training for WorldSkills. I enjoyed the whole experience of competing but the most enjoyable thing was completing the practical build in the finals.”
When asked about CWA’s support during the competition Charlie stated “CWA was very supportive throughout my world skills journey, by giving me multiple training sessions before the national qualifying heats and before the national finals. Also supplying tools and equipment needed to make parts of the installation the best it could be.”
Competing in World Skills helped him progress further within his career, as it challenged him to work under pressure to a tight timescale however still completing high quality work. The skills he learnt at World Skills have ultimately helped Charlie become more confident not only in himself but also in all aspects of electrical installation. Since leaving CWA, Charlie has become an electrician for Braham Electrical Ltd in which he has furthered his knowledge and experience on the job.
