Course basket

Dominik chose to study at CWA because of the wide range of IT courses available, knowing he did not want to study several different subjects at sixth form, and he would prefer the independent college environment.

Dominik said, “I particularly enjoyed Computer Networking, Systems Analysis and Design, IT Systems Security and Encryption Systems. I liked the technical and problem-solving aspects of these modules, especially learning how networks operate, how systems are designed, and how cybersecurity plays an important role in modern businesses. These subjects helped me realise that networking was the area of IT I wanted to pursue further.

The tutors were always very supportive, approachable, and willing to help whenever needed. They provided a lot of guidance throughout the course, which helped build my confidence both academically and personally.

One of the most valuable experiences during my time at CWA was completing work experience at Crane Garden Buildings, where I worked closely with the company’s IT technician once a week for around two months. This gave me a much better understanding of how IT supports a real business environment and allowed me to relate what I was learning at college to real-world situations.”

On completion of his studies, Dominik was invited to interview for a IT Apprenticeship at Bespak. After impressing Bespak at interview, they went on to offer Dominik a higher Degree Apprenticeship, which would allow him to continue developing his skills whilst working towards a degree qualification.

Dominik said, “My current employer is Bespak, where I work as an IT Apprentice within the Service Desk team. Although my role is based around service desk support, it involves much more than a typical first-line support position, as I am exposed to many different aspects of IT across the business.

My advice to other students would be to take every opportunity available to you, even if you are not completely sure what career path you want to follow yet. My time at CWA helped me discover my interest in networking and has opened doors that eventually led me towards my current degree apprenticeship and career goals.
You do not have to have your entire future planned out straight away, sometimes the right opportunities help you discover the path you were meant to follow"
