Ian Spriggs studied Electrical installation as part of an electrical apprenticeship between 1994 and 1996. He then later returned to complete two evening courses, the Technician course) and Test and inspection.
His apprenticeship gave him the skills and knowledge to become a qualified electrician. He found college very positive due to having experienced tutors, combined with the learning being a mixture of practical and theory.
He found that not only did he learn fundamental electrical skills which are transferable across all the technical subjects as well as a range of softer skills that are all now used in his job. During his time, he learnt key skills such as engaging with others, teamwork and leadership which he has used consistently throughout his career.
Since leaving CWA, Ian has had a successful career and is currently a Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations (DSEAR) Manager, where he manages compliance across Anglian Water. He also chairs both the Anglian Water DSEAR best practice group and the Water UK DSEAR group for the UK water industry.
