“I chose to study at CWA as I felt that this course offered what I wanted for my career aspirations. I decided to go to college over sixth form as the course was assessed through assignments with no exams, which suited my learning style.

The facets I enjoyed the most about attending college was learning outside the classroom, whether it was learning navigational skills in the Peak District or survival skills in Thetford. The lecturers had industry experience, making learning easy as they could bring in their own knowledge and skills into the learning environment. This enabled us to relate this back to our academic work.

My memories at CWA are the best. My most memorable time adventure training was a week in Ardeche. This was the highlight of the year! Activities included a 2-day descent down the river, caving, rock climbing, team building exercises and much more. Other memories include being involved in various charity events and riot training with the police and my fellow students. All these elements and more made my CWA experience one to remember. I gained an insight to all military and blue light services through various visits and tutors’ own experience.

After my time at CWA, I went on to study BA (Hons) Public Services. In my final year at university, I completed the level 3 award in Education and Training at Cambridge Regional College. I also joined the Cambridge University Officers’ Training Corps for a year and then transferred to the Army Reserve, where I became a class 3 combat medical technician. After graduating, I went on to be a Healthcare Assistant at Addenbrookes Hospital in trauma and orthopaedics. Three years in, I went back to university to further my studies in healthcare and studied a Nursing Apprenticeship receiving my degree in BSc (Hons) Nursing. I am now a fully qualified nurse, working on a colorectal surgery ward at Addenbrookes.

CWA helped me to boost my self-esteem and confidence to talk to new people. This really helped within my current role as a nurse, as I work with various members of a multi-disciplinary team. The team involves doctors from a range of specialities, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dieticians, patients and their family.

My time at CWA has really helped me to get where I am today. This was achieved through hard work and the enthusiasm from tutors. I would easily return to CWA and do the course again.”
