Prior to my degree I did History, English and Performance Studies A Levels and started a History and Ancient History joint honours degree before deciding it wasn’t for me! After a few years I realised I wanted a career in healthcare.

Returning to learning as an adult was much easier than I had imagined! I was worried I’d not know how to study anymore, and that I’d struggle to make friends/fit in. Turns out after the initial shock of being back at college, you figure out what works for you. As for making friends, everyone on an adult learner course is in the same boat as you, and it helps that everyone is at different stages in life, so you’ll have all sorts to bond over!

The tutors at CWA are so supportive of adults who want to give education another shot, and you can honestly do anything if your mind and heart are in the right place. You will surprise yourself!

For me, it was the convenience of location since I don’t drive. CWA is a lovely 30-minute walk from my house, and I love being able to walk to college in a morning - it really wakes me up and gets my brain working for the rest of the day.

In the nursing pathway of Access to Science and Nursing, you study psychology, biology and health and community studies as main subjects, alongside applied maths and study skills as smaller subjects. To me, psychology is super interesting, and Tracy always opens the floor to interesting, critical discussions which really strengthen your knowledge.

The classrooms are all modern, spacious and well cared-for - especially the University Centre’s lecture hall. The University Centre is a great place to spend break times because it’s roomy and generally quiet and calm. The LRC has all sorts of resources you may need for your course, and the LRC staff are really helpful.

The tutors are incredibly understanding of us as adult learners and are always pushing us to strive for excellence. You’ll definitely be in safe hands - not only in terms of your educational needs but for any pastoral support you may need, too.

I’ve been accepted into University of Leeds to study Bsc Midwifery in September - so provided I can smash all my assignments and exams, that’s where you’ll find me!
