Rachael decided to return to learning as a mature student, while juggling being a full-time mum to twins in order to follow her passion. She has now completed her level 3 qualification in Hairdressing.
As testimony to her passion and dedication to hairdressing, Rachel was named winner of the Concept Hair Magazine’s Learner of the Year 2021 competition in the avant-garde category. More than 1,000 hairdressing students and apprentices nationwide entered the competition, with 150 finalists, 48 shortlisted finalists and 10 winners, selected from across 8 different categories.
Rachael also won the national Instagram hairdressing competition held by Prostyling UK, who are the leading manufacture of hair foils and dispensing systems in the UK. Rachael’s winning entry, named ‘Crowning Glory’ was a hairstyle created using bungee tape to secure cascading curls in a halo above the head, beating many other experienced stylists to win.
Adding to her list of national successes that year, Rachel sailed through the regional finals in the hairdressing category and went on to compete in the national finals of the Worldskills UK competition, often referred to as the Skills Olympics.
Rachael said, “It's never too late to follow your dreams and train in a new career. You just need passion, drive, and motivation. I absolutely love the creativity of hairdressing and helping to make people feel good about themselves. I can’t wait to start working.”
