Thomas Coupland

When I first started at CWA, I didn’t have any aspirations specifically within film. I simply wanted to learn something that I enjoyed and was passionate about.

The main content of the course involved making films and learning about the media industry, both of which I thoroughly enjoyed. However, I found filmmaking to be the most interesting part of the course, since I got to put my skills to the test.

The people that I met and became friends with, as well as the tutors, made my experience at CWA a brilliant time in my life. The media department pushed me to work harder than ever which brought me success at the WorldSkills 2018 where our team won Gold in the Film Finals at the Birmingham NEC.

After finishing my course at CWA, I wanted to further my study at university. My place of choice was Ravensbourne University in London where I studied ‘Digital Film Production’ and graduated with a First-Class Honours degree. My time at CWA helped significantly improve my social skills and knowledge. Without discovering the film course, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I am currently working as Event Staff for Unique Norfolk Venues. This work is only part-time as I am saving for my MA which starts in January 2022.

The MA is in Film Marketing, Distribution, Sales and Exhibition at the National Film and Television School. The course will be two years long and challenging, however, I feel ready to take on any challenges thrown my way and cannot wait to take on the next chapter of my life.
