Brigita Vaigauskieke Retail Manager A cancer charity is delighted by support it is receiving from Uniformed Services students at the College of West Anglia at King’s Lynn. General manager of the Big C fundraising shop in Norfolk Street, King’s Lynn, Tonia King was on hand when students attended a photocall, accompanied by lecturer Pat Kavanagh, Course Director, Uniform and Public Services Team at the college. Mrs King said: “It is great to have local students as volunteers. It is always lovely when young people help in the shop.” The Big C shop in Norfolk Street opened in November 2012 and now has three full-time staff and 20 volunteers. The photocall was to launch the support project from Uniformed Services services students from the College of West Anglia, with the backing of the Blue and Gold Supporters Trust. This is part of a partnership approach to provide young people with customer-facing skills to ensure they can improve employability prospects. The aim will be to raise funds for the Big C Charity and to raise funds to support Games-Changers, which provide sporting activities in deprived areas of the town, under the umbrella of the Blue and Gold Supporters Trust. The money raised will be used to get the communities involved in a variety of sporting activities to improve health and wellbeing. It will be run by volunteers from the Blue and Gold Supporters Trust, with help from the Discovery Centre. The partnership brings together uniformed services students and staff from the College of West Anglia and the Blue and Gold Games Changers. Students have already been given induction training by Big C to help them work in a retail environment. As well as helping serving in the Big C shop on a rota basis, the 14 students involved will be collecting used sports equipment to be sold in the shop with proceeds split between the causes involved.
