The college paved their way to a win at the Norfolk and Waveney Building Apprentices’ Competition (R E Carter Awards), held at the Norfolk Showground.
With three individual gold medals in the plumbing, electrical and brickwork categories, the college team was named the overall winner of the Carter Cup, which this year celebrated its 43rd anniversary. This is the 5th time college have won the Carter Cup in the last ten years.
The competitors included a mix of apprentices and full-time students from the Carter Academy, City College Norwich, East Coast College & Otley College and the college.

David Pomfret, said: “We are delighted to have won the Carter Cup again, winning three gold medals and one bronze medal in the individual electrical, plumbing and brickwork categories. We are immensely proud of the apprentices, who have worked extremely hard to achieve their individual medal, contributing to the overall success of the team, and we are excited to see what our highly-skilled apprentices will achieve in the future.”
Dermott Brennan, Programme Manager for Construction at CWA, said: “This year, the competition has been fantastic and the level of skill phenomenal. We are delighted to have won the cup and to have won gold in three out of the five categories. It’s been a really successful day for the college, apprentices and employers.”
Sam Ridgwell, who secured gold in the electrical category of the competition and is currently completing an apprenticeship at CWA while working for Complete Electrical Solutions Ltd said: “I have worked extremely hard to build up my skill-set and I am delighted with the result. I’m grateful for the help given to me at work and by the college staff over the last few weeks to prepare me for the competition.”
