CWA Girls Elite Team Take Title
The Elite Girls Football Programme from the College of West Anglia Sports campus have been crowned the Association of Colleges (AoC) Sport East Region Cat 2 winners.
A dramatic last minute winning goal from April Kichen in their final game of the season against Hills Road Sixth Form College, Cambridge, saw them take the title and round off a remarkable season for girl’s football at the college.
The girls all attend sport programmes at the CWA Sports campus based at Alive Lynnsport, which combine professional coaching and athlete development with their education programmes. Their courses range from coaching, fitness instructing, personal training and diplomas in sport and sports science.
In November the girls won the AoC Sport East region 7-a-side competition, qualifying for the National Finals which were recently held at Bath University. CWA finished 5th nationally proving the quality of female footballing talent currently at the college.
Captain Bethan Jones and striker Dayna Kingshott have been offered full athletic scholarships in America next year adding to the array of talent from CWA who have made the move to America.
“We are extremely proud of what the girls have achieved this year, they have worked hard in training and on their education and have reaped the rewards,” said Programme Manager for Sport Tommy Goode. “With the success they have achieved both on and off the pitch, some players have been offered scholarships and I have no doubt more will follow next year”.
