CWA Staff awards
The staff at the College of West Anglia have been celebrating and reflecting on the academic year with their annual awards ceremony.
This year’s event took place on Tuesday 24 November at the Duke’s Head in King’s Lynn. Winners and runners-up were joined by senior management to celebrate the hard work and achievements of staff from the Cambridge, Wisbech, and King’s Lynn campuses of the College of West Anglia.
Big winners on the night were the English department staff, who won ‘Team of the Year’ for their fantastic achievement of getting a student A-C GCSE English pass rate of 67%, compared with the national average for 17+ age students of 33%. Rachel West also picked up manager of the year for the English department.
‘Employer of the Year’ went to Chas Boston, a lecturer in engineering at the King’s Lynn campus. Chas also picked up course director of the year.
Mr Boston said: “I was honoured to just be nominated, never mind receive ‘Course Director of the Year’. So you can only imagine my shock and surprise to be awarded ‘Employee of the Year’ as well.
I am only here for one reason, and that is for the learners in my charge. Without the people within the motor vehicle team and all of the staff involved directly or indirectly with the learners I deliver to, I would not have been honoured in this way. I feel it is important to recognise our learners themselves, as they play the biggest part in our achievements. Without their efforts, we would truly have boring jobs and not be recognised for the skills we have here at CWA.”
Lifetime achievement awards were presented to Annette Barker (PA to the Principal), Sarah Ibbetson-Brown (Lecturer, Business & Humanities), Graham Smith (Lecturer, Business & Humanities), and Tony Smith (Lecturer, Construction & Plumbing KL) for 25 years of service to the College of West Anglia.
