Two students from the health and social care and nursing and paramedic courses at CWA competed in the finals of the World Skills event in Birmingham recently.
Nursing & Paramedic student Nathania Kilkarni from King’s Lynn and Health & Social Care student Molly Ryan from Walpole St Andrew were both selected to represent CWA for the Eastern region in this prestigious competition, with the national winners potentially going forward to represent the UK in Sao Paulo, Brazil in August 2015.
The competition consisted of a number of rounds with judges scoring scenarios with actors to assess the capabilities of students for the provision of personal care, dementia and an adult with learning difficulties.
Curriculum support manager Ann Compton said: “Whilst we do not yet know the final outcomes from the event, we are incredibly proud of our two students for the professionalism they have shown in a highly competitive arena. The event tested their practical skills, theoretical knowledge and their understanding in challenging circumstances.”
She went on to say: “We would particularly like to highlight the support from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) and Julia Saunders, the Practice Development Nurse, for her time and dedication to support our students. It is a reflection of the fantastic relationship that is fostering between the college and our local hospital.”
