Artistic creativity and flare has been celebrated at the opening night of the College of West Anglia’s end of year art exhibition at CWA Wisbech. Students from across the college’s creative arts department are celebrating the successful completion of their qualifications. Principal David Pomfret formally opened the exhibition, housed at the college campus on Ramnoth Road, on Monday 12 June 2017. The showcase is host to an array of inspiring pieces from fashion, graphic design and fine art students who are now preparing to head off to university, enter into employment or progress into further study. Dr Iain Mason from The Elizabeth Wright Charity - who provides grants and services to young people in Cambridgeshire to help them into higher education - attended the opening to judge and present awards to young people whose work caught the eye of the visiting judging panel. He said: “It beholds me to say it’s very apparent that the students have put in a lot of hard work this year and they have had tremendous support from the staff. There is some really evocative work on display.” This year’s first place winners, as judged by the Elizabeth Wright Charity, were L3 Graphic Design student Sarah Bligh and L3 Photography student Annabel Homewood. Both students received £150, with runners up receiving £125 and £100 respectively. The winner of the Norwich University of Art Excellence Award was Catherine West, a second year L3 Graphic Design student. Principal David Pomfret said: “There is a really strong family feel at this campus and it’s great to see the support for the students here tonight. We really are proud of our students and what they have achieved.” Penny Sully, programme manager for art and design at Wisbech, said: “Art is not easy. It’s very important that we visualise the work our students do. It lets an audience see their ability and potential. Hopefully when you see their work, you will see how deeply they think, about their society and the world around them.” The Exhibition, in the ArtSpace at CWA Wisbech, is open to the public as follows: Tuesday, 13 June 2017 – 9.30am – 6.30pm Wednesday, 14 June 2017 – 9.30am – 3.30pm Thursday, 15 June 2017 – 9.30am – 3.30pm Friday, 16 June 2017 – 9.30am – 3.30pm   Full list of winners: Achievement Awards L2 Art and Design -  Megan Martin Year 1 - L3 Art and Design, Fashion, Graphics, Art and Photography Megan Whiley – Fashion Year 2 – L3 Art and Design, Fashion, Graphics, Art and Photography Samantha Pattison – Graphic Design Final Major Project - L2 Art and Design Paris Stanley Year 1 - L3 Art and Design, Fashion, Graphics, Art and Photography - Raine Lansfield - Art Year 2 – L3 Art and Design, Fashion, Graphics, Art and Photography - Saimonas Tartenis - Fashion Final Major Project Paris Stanley - L2 Art and Design Norwich University of Art Excellence Award Catherine West - Yr 2 L3 Graphic Design   Elizabeth Wright Awards First Prize Sarah Bligh - L3 Graphic Design Annabel Homewood - L3 Art and Design – Photography Second Prize Sandra Farnsworth - L3 Art and Design – Fashion Abi Johnson - L3 Art and Design – Fashion Third Prize Arturs Denisovs - L2 Art and Design Callum Knott - L3 Art and Design - Art
