Level 3 Engineering T Level students from the College of West Anglia’s Wisbech campus enjoyed an invaluable industry focused visit to Lotus Cars on Monday, gaining rare access into the operations of one of the UK’s most iconic performance vehicle manufacturers. This trip was facilitated and organised by Learning Support Officer, Martin Cox, who supported students throughout the day.
During the visit, the students were taken on a guided tour of the Lotus factory, where they explored the heritage of the brand and its evolution within the high-performance automotive sector. They followed the full production journey of the Lotus Emira, witnessing each build stage first-hand; from initial assembly through to testing, final polish and quality inspection before the vehicle reaches the customer.
The experience offered students a meaningful look at advanced manufacturing methods, modern engineering workflows, and the professional standards expected within a world class automotive environment. The tour directly supported their understanding of real-world engineering applications and strengthened their aspirations for future careers within the sector.
Technology Course Director, Simon Marriott said “This was highly beneficial for our Level 3 learners because it allowed them to connect their classroom learning with real-world engineering practice. Seeing the precision, discipline, and innovation required at Lotus has given them a deeper appreciation of what high-level manufacturing involves, and it has undoubtedly broadened their outlook on potential future career pathways.”
