College staff members, Debbie Fletcher and Ed Cussons, have been crowned Love West Norfolk Champions at a special ceremony hosted by the Mayor of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk Councillor Nick Daubney.
The event, which took place on Tuesday 16th April in the Town Hall, saw 15 individuals and groups named as Champions in recognition of the impact they are making in West Norfolk.
All of the Champions were nominated by members of the public because they are making a positive difference in or for West Norfolk. This could be through promoting West Norfolk, supporting a good cause, community or individual(s) in West Norfolk, running an activity(ies) in West Norfolk which makes a difference, or by being a role model for others in West Norfolk.
The Mayor of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk Councillor Nick Daubney said: “It has been an absolute pleasure to meet so many people who love West Norfolk and who are demonstrably showing their commitment to the area.
“Our Love West Norfolk Champions are doing great things to make a difference for West Norfolk, in so many ways. It is fantastic to be able to celebrate their efforts.”
The role of Champion is an honorary position lasting for one year. The Love West Norfolk Champions will be able to get involved in the Love West Norfolk campaign which is promoting and celebrating West Norfolk. The campaign is being run by the West Norfolk Strategy Group.
Ray Harding, Chief Executive of the Borough Council of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk, a partner in the Strategy Group said: “We know that West Norfolk has so much to offer, and through the Love West Norfolk campaign, we have been celebrating and promoting all the qualities which make West Norfolk such a great place to be.
“We know too that local people are doing so much for West Norfolk which is why it was important for us to recognise our Love West Norfolk Champions. These are people who are making a difference for the area and the fact that our Champions were nominated by members of the public makes this recognition even more special.”
Of the 15 Champions announced, eight were recognised for specific themes which reflect the themes of the Love West Norfolk campaign, namely: Live, Work, Visit, Play, Learn and Invest. Ed Cussons and Debbie Fletcher were recognised under the Learn theme.

“Ed has continued to demonstrate professionalism and a powerful ability to engage his learners. He has shown how dedicated he is to encouraging high aspirations and keeping learner interests at the heart of what he does. He has a clear vision for himself and his learners and this is to be the best he and they can.”
Ed commented: ‘’I feel very honoured to be given this award, and feel that it is a reflection on the hard work and dedication that I set for both myself & my learners. The college’s success is built on effective teaching, learning and assessment and to be recognised as excelling in this area is something I am incredibly proud of. West Norfolk has some great young people and it is fantastic to see so many of them reach their full potential after advice and guidance not only from myself but the many brilliant teachers in West Norfolk.”
Debbie’s nomination read:“Debbie’s students achieved 100% A*-C grades, with 67% of them achieving A*-B grades; 87% of her students achieved or exceeded their expected grades and 80% of her students progressed to university upon completion of their A Levels. As well as outstanding success, she has shown compassion and a professional approach supporting both her learners and colleagues.”
