Osteopath, Ian Plested, visited Year 1 and 2 Sports Science students at the College of West Anglia’s sports campus, at Alive Lynnsport, to give them an insight into a possible career in osteopathy.
Ian is the principal osteopath at Fenland Osteopaths and one of his specialisms is sports massage - providing a flexible range of treatment options. During his experience, he has treated patients from all professions and walks of life with a common desire – relief from pain.
Ian explained:
"We have all suffered with pain either for a brief time or, as for many, over months and sometimes years. Finding relief that does not involve more and more medication can lead to frustration and a host of side effects that can often accompany medication. My experience as an osteopath has rewarded me with countless patients who are amazed how osteopathy has brought them long term relief from pain.
I would like to thank Becky Davis and the team at the College of West Anglia Sports Campus for inviting me to talk to the students about osteopathy and the powerful treatment approach it brings to healthcare today.”
The students found his presentation inspiring.
Student, Chanel Upton said:
“I found it really enjoyable, I think it was really interesting to be a part of the discussion, and I learnt a lot. I developed good understanding of the different pathways I can have after I finish college.”
Student, Lucy Partridge added:
“I learned a variety of different things which applied to me. It gave me a higher understanding and knowledge of the subject.”
Becky Davis, Workplace and Careers Co-ordinator – Sports and Leisure said:
“We are incredibly grateful that Ian has taken time out of his private clinic to speak to our Sports Students and give them such a thorough insight into osteopathy. Many of our students are interested in future careers in osteopathy, physiotherapy or sports injury treatment, but work placements tend to be held for university level students. This has been an invaluable experience for them and has given them more information about how to get into the industry.”
