Just 13 months ago, the College of West Anglia consulted over closing Applewood Nursery due to funding cuts imposed on it. An Ofsted report released today shows the nursery has gone from strength-to-strength with an incredibly positive report reflecting its continued status as a good provider.
Inspectors commented positively on the new Tapestry electronic system used by the nursery, which enables parents to view and monitor their children’s daily progress. They also highlighted the nutritious hot food that is provided onsite and the outdoor area as being not only a positive learning environment but somewhere they can have fun and even grow their own vegetables!
Andrew Gedge, head of faculty responsible for the nursery, said: “We have made a number of changes that have helped Applewood move standards up and meet the raised bar that Ofsted now has. Applewood is not just a resource for college staff and students, but for the whole community.”
Principal David Pomfret said: “As we know, the new inspection framework is more demanding than the last and to retain the ‘good’ judgement is a great achievement. With this in mind, I am absolutely delighted that nothing was graded anything less than ‘good’.
“I would also like to thank Norfolk County Council for their support in helping us on a number of levels with the nursery in this last year, it’s so gratifying for the nursery staff and the college as a whole to be recognised for its hard work to achieve high standards.”
