Higher education on Angele's horizon
An Access course student at the College of West Anglia has proven that determination is the key to success.
Angele Matuseviciute, 20, from King’s Lynn started at the College of West Anglia with only a very limited vocabulary after moving here on completion of her high school studies in Lithuania. Thanks to a course called English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) at CWA, she is now in the final stages of her Access to Higher Education course with sights on starting a degree later this year.
Access to Higher Education courses are aimed at over 19s who want to go onto study a university level (HE) course, but who left school without the usual qualifications (e.g. A-levels) required for entry to HE.
Angele said: “Before I started at CWA I only knew a few English words like ‘hello’, ‘bye’, ‘thank you’ and ‘how are you’. The ESOL course has helped me a lot as I now feel ready to study my degree. It’s given me more confidence and I have achieved things I didn’t think I could.”
Angele is looking to study the brand new bioscience degree in the new University Centre West Anglia building, opening in September on the King’s Lynn campus of CWA.
She added: “I would like to highly recommend CWA. The atmosphere is very friendly and the facilities are really good. If you have a dream, then the college will help you to realise it, no matter your age.”
You can still apply for UCWA degree courses in a range of subject areas, to start your studies this September in the brand new university centre opening for the new academic year 2016/2017.
