Zoe and cyclists 1 Three intrepid women from Fenland are in training to do a 100k cycle ride at night to raise money for women’s cancer charities. Natalie Gooch, from Friday Bridge, and Zoe Drew, Elm, from the Isle campus of the College of West Anglia and friend Emma Chennery, from Elm, aim to compete in the Women v Cancer Ride The Night event which starts at the Royal Windsor Racecourse, into London and back again on Saturday, May 31. It will be a tough event for the trio who will raise money for the national charity to support Breast Cancer Care, Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust and Ovarian Cancer Action. The event features 1,500 cyclists and Zoe has another reason to be inspired into taking part. Her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and has made a really good recovery. She added: “I have completed the Race For Life several times and this is the next big step for me to help raise funds for excellent causes.” Zoe works from the campus as a training advisor in Engineering, Electrical, Plastering, Painting & Decorating; Natalie is a Maths lecturer at the Isle campus. Emma Chenery is office manager at Kett Autopaints (Anglia) Ltd. She has recently become a member at The Hudson Leisure Centre and Whizzy Tri Club, where she goes spinning at turbo training weekly. Her aunt and godmother were both diagnosed with cancer in 2012 and have both had operations and extensive treatment. She explained: “Finding out they were ill really made me feel powerless to help them. “So in 2013 I decided to run in the Race for Life in Peterborough, after never doing any proper exercise regularly ever before! Then at the end of 2013, Zoe managed to talk me into signing up for the 100K Cycle through the night in May this year, for women’s cancer charities. “After a lot of convincing off Zoe and some training, I’m really looking forward to doing something I never thought I would ever be able to do in my life.” This is a night time event starting at The Royal Windsor Racecourse, cycling through and around the sites of London taking in Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Trafalgar Square and many more before the final stretch back to The Royal Windsor Racecourse.
